Why Join The Ampersand?

As a Media Communications course, this three credit class counts as an elective for most students. It also offers leadership opportunities, which may count toward the Webster Leads Leadership Certificate. For others, though, it’s an opportunity to gain hands-on production experience that’s challenging, fun and at times a little crazy.

Who Can Join?

Students with background in media writing, Associated Press (AP) style, photography and sufficient knowledge of Adobe InDesign are eligible to join the staff.

Enroll for The Ampersand class by signing up for MEDC 3150 Topics in Magazine Production. Students may be asked to talk with the adviser, Karen Burch before enrolling and may be asked to submit samples of recent, relevant work. What to Expect in Class

This is not an introductory level class.

Time commitments are especially necessary around (weeks before and after) spring/fall break.

There is not much time teaching InDesign in class, so it is expected that staffers are familiar with the program. Basic knowledge of Mac computers is required.

Being on a production staff, it is important to communicate effectively and work well in small groups.
